The first visit will last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to allow time to complete initial paperwork.

If possible, please bring the following:

  • Your complete medical record including:
  • All previous evaluations from other providers (MDs, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Psychologists, etc.)
  • X-ray or MRI interpretations from recent tests (please bring the actual films)
  • Please bring a referral slip from your physician, if necessary.
  • Please bring your insurance card and cash or credit card for any applicable co-payments.

Physical Examination

The evaluation will occur in a private, comfortable examination room. The physical assessment will be thorough and will begin by discussing your medical history, onset of the problem, and your lifestyle and work-related habits. Please also provide the names of the medications, vitamins, and/or nutritional supplements you are currently taking.
The next portion of the exam will include vital signs, posture and movement assessment, special orthopedic/chiropractic tests, and palpation of specific structures related to your complaint in an effort to determine the cause of the problem.

After the examination, the doctor will discuss your results with you and give you a working diagnosis. Further diagnostic studies, such as x-rays, may be necessary to determine appropriate treatment.

Treatment Recommendations

Treatment will be rendered on the same day, barring any contra-indications. Depending on the nature of the injury and diagnosis, treatment will consist of any one or more of the following: spinal/joint manipulation (aka adjustment) and associated modalities which may be indicated, such as heat, ice, electrical muscle stimulation, Physiotherapy exercises, Acupuncture and/or Massage. Also, the doctor will recommend home stretching and exercise program, nutritional supplementation, or suggest custom made orthotics, back supports, etc.

Post treatment, it is common to feel soreness for 24 hours. The doctor will recommend that you place ice or heat to the affected area(s). Based on your diagnosis/condition, the doctor will suggest a treatment program that is goal-oriented and time-limited in fashion. Remember, therapy is not a “magic bullet” or an instantaneous cure. It requires active participation and commitment on your behalf. Your condition may have developed cumulatively over the years; and one to two sessions may not realistically address the problem.

Subsequent Visits:

From the outset, you will be scheduled based on your preferential time. This time slot will be reserved just for you and it ensures that you maximize your time with the doctor. Please dress comfortably, or you may bring a change of clothes to the office. Each visit, the doctor will assess your condition to see if any new conditions may have developed, if your symptoms are worsening, or if your symptoms have abated. This is to ensure that we are working towards the treatment goals. When appropriate, the doctor may make recommendations to consult with a medical specialist.

Payment Options:

Heartland Wellness Clinic accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and cash for treatment services. When possible (if your insurance company allows) the Heartland Wellness Clinic will bill the insurance company directly. Also, our staff will gladly verify your insurance coverage.
